Sarah Wright

Sarah founded Heart Strong Fitness in 2010.

Sarah is a Practicing Kinesiologist and Clinical Exercise Physiologist with almost 15 years experience in the fitness and clinical exercise industry. She has a Bachelors of Science degree with a Major in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University. Her CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist designation allows her to work with those with chronic metabolic or physiological issues, including diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease, lung disease and others.

Sarah has worked for the past six years in Campbell River helping privately funded clients realize their goals in both a one-on-one and group setting.

She assisted in the startup of the Island Health supported Take Heart Exercise Program at Strathcona Gardens and was the chief facilitator for two years. She also assisted with the start up of the Comox Valley CardioPulmonary Wellness Program.

She worked as a kinesiologist in a government funded community based, supervised exercise program for people with chronic conditions in Calgary, Alberta for five years and also volunteered at the Cardiac Wellness Institute of Calgary. She also worked as a personal trainer at the Glencoe Club, one of Calgary’s most prestigious clubs.

In addition to her clinical experience, she has taken walking pole, osteoporosis, cancer and exercise, lifestyle coaching, weight management and functional strengthening courses. Her focus is on finding a realistic, efficient and effective exercise and active living program for her clients, based on evidence based guidelines. She encourages her clients to be active by doing things they enjoy, not to torture themselves. Results happen with you are consistent and progress when appropriate. She is comfortable corresponding with your physician, physiotherapist, or other health professional about any concerns she has regarding your past conditions, symptoms and about your progress.

Personal Bio

Sarah grew up in Campbell River and moved back to Campbell River in 2010 with her family, bringing a wealth of experience to North Vancouver Island. She has trained as a national level competitor in waterskiing, has completed three triathlons and enjoys mountain biking, running, yoga, weight training and outdoor pursuits with her family. She completed the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas half marathon in December 2011 in 2:07:49, the 2013 Goddess 10 km in 51:29, and the 2014 Merville 15 km in 1:17:00.

Sarah stays active biking in all forms, alpine skiing, running, strength training, yoga and her primary passion: waterskiing. Her fitness goals: keep her joints, body and mind as healthy and happy for as many years as possible, and never allow her body limit her in trying new things with friends or family. And of course working on keeping up with her boys in the trails on her mountain bike for as many years as possible! Promoting physical literacy and a lifelong love for activity is her number one goal as a parent, a coach, and as a kinesiologist.

She realizes the meaning of a "busy schedule" as a working mom with twin boys. Her active lifestyle helps her to manage stress, feel strong, and maintain her energy level and health.

Robyn Smalley

Robyn became a partner in Heart Strong Fitness in July 2017. She has over 5 years experience as a Practicing Kinesiologist in exercise therapy, occupational rehabilitation and ergonomics. She studied Kinesiology at University of Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. She is now accepting clients with a wide range of abilities and challenges – injury recovery, chronic conditions, athletes and general fitness.

She is passionate about injury prevention and rehabilitation and her infectious enthusiasm and knowledge makes her a pleasure to work with. She has experience with rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries, persistent pain and general conditioning. Robyn facilitates our hydrotherapy program, mobility classes and our running clinics.

Robyn moved to Vancouver Island from Alberta permanently in 2011. She enjoys the outdoor lifestyle that the island has to offer including skiing, hiking, beach combing, gardening and running. She finished her first half marathon in 2016 and is looking to continue in more events. Robyn enjoys travelling and has explored South East Asia, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Jeff attended Camosun College’s Athletic and Exercise Therapy degree program in Victoria and graduated in 2013. He has been a Certified Athletic Therapist, a CEP-Certified Exercise Physiologist since 2013.

Jeff began his career working with high end amateur athletes in junior hockey leagues in both the BCHL and AJHL. He later transitioned into a clinical position at a rehabilitation center in Lloydminster, Alberta. Jeff was the primary exercise therapist for a return to work program working with people who had been injured on the job and those who had been involved in motor vehicle accidents. He has experience in the rehabilitation of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries, general conditioning as well as working with clients who have chronic medical conditions such diabetes, lung disease, and heart disease.

Jeff moved back to Vancouver Island in 2017 in order to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that he had grown up with. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, fishing, gardening and enjoying all the outdoor adventures that the island has to offer.

Tiffany owns Tiffany McFadden Nutrition Consulting

As a Registered Dietitian Tiffany is a trusted expert in food, nutrition and health. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of British Columbia followed by a ten month internship with Fraser Health. She is a registrant of the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and a member of Dietitians of Canada.

Tiffany has four years of clinical experience at a high acuity hospital in a major urban center. She has provided nutrition advice and education for both in and out patients. She is also comfortable working as part of a team and will communicate all goals and plans with any other health care providers you may be seeing including physicians, physiotherapists, and personal trainers.

Her goal is to provide individual, realistic and up-to-date nutrition information for her clients.

Tiffany was born and raised in Campbell River, British Columbia. After attending the University of Victoria and earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology she decided her true passion was a career in dietetics. After studying and working in Vancouver, she has returned to Campbell River with her husband and three sons, to take advantage of the amazing lifestyle that Vancouver Island has to offer. She enjoys creating healthy, tasty meals for her family and sharing delicious food (and wine) with great friends.
